About MassAction for Justice

MA Action for Justice is a non-profit organization incorporated in Massachusetts.  We have a 10 person Board of Directors all of whom have extensive background in community and /or labor organizing.

We were founded in January 2023.

Lew Finfer is the Director of MA Action for Justice.  He’s been a community organizer in Massachusetts since 1970 working with groups at the neighborhood, city, and state levels.

In the 1970’s he worked in Dorchester with Dorchester Tenants Action Council (DTAC, Dorchester Community Action Council (DCAC), and then with Dorchester Fair Share that was part of Massachusetts Fair Share. Then in the late 1970s as Director of Somerville United Neighborhoods. In the 1980s he co-directed and then directed MA Tenants Organizations (MTO) and then was Director of MA Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA).

Starting in 1990, he worked from MA Communities Action Network (MCAN) [which was earlier called the Organizing and Leadership Training Center] and with others organized a network of faith-based organizations. These included Brockton Interfaith Community, Essex County Community Organization, Worcester Interfaith, United Interfaith Action of SE MA, and Greater Boston Interfaith Organization, Pioneer Valley Project, and Vermont Interfaith Action.  Later the Youth Jobs Coalition (now called I Have A Future) and Prophetic Resistance Boston.  MCAN and its affiliates are affiliated with the Faith in Action Network.
